Import Reptiles

Bring in your whole collection from a spreadsheet

On this page
  1. Fix a row that’s held back
  2. What the dates log
  3. New categories, cages and foods
  4. Undo an import
  1. On Home, select the + button, then Import reptiles
  2. Select Choose a file, or paste the cells, headers included, under Paste rows and select Read the rows
  3. If a column’s name matches nothing, choose what it holds or leave it skipped, then select the check button, such as Check 12 rows
  4. Fix or leave out any reptile that’s held back, then select the create button, such as Create 12 animals

One import is a .xlsx or .csv under 700 KB with up to 100 reptiles. Template.xlsx lists your own food types and sizes in its dropdowns.

Fix a row that’s held back

A row waits for a fix only when its Name / ID is missing or already used, its nickname is another reptile’s Name / ID, or a value is too long. Edit it on its card, or select Leave out.

Everything else SnekLog can’t read is left blank or set to the usual choice, with a note saying so. For every row sets what a blank Status, unit or Feed every becomes.

  1. A food type read as the closest one of yours, with a button to create it as typed instead
  2. A note about something left blank
  3. Everything the reptile will save
  4. The button that leaves a reptile out
  5. The reason a reptile is held back, with a box to fix it

What the dates log

Past history isn’t imported. Three dates each log one event, so reminders start on time:

  • Last fed: With a food type, one feeding of that meal. Without one, it only starts the feeding timer
  • Last cleaned: A Full Substrate Change
  • Last shed: A Good Shed

A date in the future is left blank. The feeding doesn’t take from your stock counts.

New categories, cages and foods

A category, cage, food type or food size that doesn’t exist yet is created. Where a card offers one of yours instead, taking it changes every row with the same name. Check a new food type’s Uses stock from in Food.

Undo an import

On the Done step, select Undo this import, then Remove 12 animals. It removes the reptiles, what’s logged on them, and anything the import made that nothing else uses.

Undo is only on that screen. Once you leave it, delete the reptiles one at a time.
