The header

The header sits at the top of all three tabs with basic information about the animal. Information that has not been entered will be omitted from this box.

Note

A ? beside a weight’s unit means it came from the old SnekLog unconfirmed: see Units.

Dashboard

The Dashboard tab holds the dials with current care information, a Quick Feed button, and the animal’s trends.

Each dial is one kind of care: Feeding, Cleaning, Weight and Shed, then one for each medication course that’s running. The ring fills as the due date comes closer. An overdue care item displays with a full ring and the amount of time overdue.

Select any dial to directly log an event in that category.

Quick Feed logs the animal’s usual meal in one step. More in Feedings and meals.

Note

An animal that is no longer in the collection has its reminders off, and its dials show only when each thing was last done. More in Statuses, names and “in the collection”.

Point at an item, or at a number on the picture, to highlight it. Click to keep it lit.Tap an item, or a number on the picture, to highlight it.

  1. An animal that is marked fasting will display this label
  2. When the task was last done, and its set interval
  3. An animal that is in shed will display with a full ring
  4. A care item with no reminder set
  5. 23d overdue, in the dial’s color, once a due date has passed

Still giving a medication?

When a repeating course is more than two of its gaps past due, a note under the dials asks whether you’re still giving it.

Point at an item, or at a number on the picture, to highlight it. Click to keep it lit.Tap an item, or a number on the picture, to highlight it.

  1. End course saves the last dose as not repeating, and the course will no longer appear on the dials
  2. Log a dose opens the Medication form on that medication
  3. Keep going hides the note until you next open SnekLog

Rhythm, Growth and History

Under Quick Feed come the animal’s trends: Rhythm, then Growth, then History.

Rhythm

Rhythm puts everything you’ve logged on one line of time, a row for each kind of event, with today at the right. 3 mo, 12 mo and All set how much it shows. Select a mark to see what it was.

On a computer, 16 seconds

On a phone, 12 seconds

What each mark means The strip’s own key, under it, names the marks it’s showing.
RowMark
FeedingA dot, bigger for a heavier meal, hollow when it wasn’t eaten. A regurgitation displays an arrow rising on the day the meal came back up.
ShedA bar from the first sign to the finish; hollow for a bad shed
CleaningA tick, tall for a cleaning that resets the reminder
Weight and lengthA diamond, hollow for a length
MedicationA cross
MatingA ring
DefecationA small dot
Any other categoryA small square

Growth

Growth charts the animal’s weight over time, with a Weight / Length switch once it has lengths too. Meal size shows each day’s eaten meals versus the animal’s body weight.

Point at an item, or at a number on the picture, to highlight it. Click to keep it lit.Tap an item, or a number on the picture, to highlight it.

  1. 1y, 3y and All set the range
  2. The latest weight
  3. The Weight / Length switch
  4. One day’s meals, as a proportion of the animal’s body weight
  5. The typical line, the animal’s usual share

Every entry is shown in the animal’s current unit. Refusals and regurgitations don’t count toward Meal size.

History

History lists everything logged for the animal, newest first: Event History for one animal. Its filter buttons narrow it to one kind of event, and a meal of several foods is one row that opens to each food. Rows edit and delete as in Event History.

Video without sound, 13 seconds. Donut’s History narrowed to feedings, a meal of two foods opened, and one food’s Feeding form opened and closed.

Handling isn’t an event, so it is not included. Last out, in the header, shows handling.

Info

The Info tab holds everything recorded about the animal, in cards: Identity, Feeding and care, a card for its status (such as Quarantine with day 12 of 30), Origin and lineage and Notes. A field with no data will be omitted from the page.

Point at an item, or at a number on the picture, to highlight it. Click to keep it lit.Tap an item, or a number on the picture, to highlight it.

  1. Edit the information in this section
  2. Feeding interval, with the next meal’s due date
  3. The Clutch the animal hatched from
  4. The Mother and Father, each with a link when they’re in your account

Still blank

When an animal’s record holds little beyond its name, a Still blank card lists what’s missing. You can edit individual line items or select Open the whole form to see all options.

Parents and young

Origin and lineage links the animal to its family. Select a Mother, a Father or one of the Offspring to open that animal’s Info tab.

Video without sound, 14 seconds. From Ravi’s Origin and lineage to his father Felix, whose Offspring lists Ravi, then Back.
  • A parent typed by name, not picked from your collection, shows as text with Not in SnekLog
  • A parent out of the collection keeps its link, with its status beside it
  • Offspring lists every animal with this one as a parent, youngest first
  • Clutch opens the clutch the animal hatched from. A parent gets a Clutches row listing its clutches

Photos

The Photos tab holds the animal’s photos, up to 10. One is its main photo, the picture SnekLog shows for the animal on Home, in the top bar, in the header and on Cage Cards. An animal without one shows its first letter instead.

The end of Jasper’s Photos tab on a phone, with the Add photo bar under his five photos.

The main photo leads the tab. The Add photo button counts the photos, such as 5 of 10, and reads Limit reached at 10.

Adding a photo

Video without sound, 19 seconds. A photo of Jasper is cropped square, turned a quarter, given a caption and added.
  1. On the animal’s Photos tab, select Add photo and choose a photo
  2. You can crop the photo and choose a shape: Free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 or 16:9. Rotate turns it a quarter at a time
  3. Select Next, check Date taken and add a Caption if desired
  4. Select Add photo

Date taken starts on the date saved in the photo, or on today. An animal’s first photo becomes its main photo. An iPhone’s HEIC photos don’t open in most computer browsers, so a JPEG or PNG is preferred.

Viewing photos

Select a photo to open it full screen. Arrows, swipes or the arrow keys move between photos. Under each photo are its date, Primary on the main one, and the caption.

Video without sound, 12 seconds. Jasper’s photos on a phone: a swipe left for the next one, and a swipe down to close.

Changing a photo

Point at an item, or at a part of the picture, to highlight it. Click an item to keep it lit.Tap an item to highlight it on the picture.

  1. Edit details changes the date and the caption
  2. Make primary makes this photo the animal’s main photo
  3. Delete photo asks first, then deletes the photo

Delete the main photo and the animal’s newest other photo takes over.

Careful

A deleted photo can’t be brought back, and there’s no Undo.

The + menu

The + button holds the actions for this animal. On a computer it reads More actions. Log Handling sets Last out to the current time, and Clone reptile starts a new animal from a copy of this one. Reports prints the animal’s Sales Certificate or Animal Report or its Cage Card. Update and Delete reptile are under Add, update, clone or delete.

An Animal Report from here will first ask How much history should it carry? Choose Your defaults, or Everything on record to include the animal’s full history.

Add, update, clone or delete

An animal’s record is a page of six cards: Basics, Housing, Feeding, Reminders, About the animal and Origin & lineage. Each card opens its own section. Adding, updating and cloning all use this page.

  1. Saved appears for a few seconds after a section is saved
  2. A card, with a description of what it holds
  3. A card filled from a category’s defaults will say so
  4. The add button, named for the animal once it has a name

A new animal’s Feed every and Items per feeding default to 7 days and 1, and Full substrate change every defaults to 90 days. Weigh every is blank by default, which means no reminder. Leaving Weigh every or Full substrate change every blank, or entering 0, turns that reminder off, and changing either moves the due date immediately. Feed every cannot be left blank. Starting weight and Starting length, under About the animal, become the animal’s first weigh-in and length and set its units. These two fields appear only on a new animal. Selecting a Category fills in its defaults in any fields you haven’t typed in. Category defaults are set in Settings, Reptile Categories.

More on names and statuses in Statuses, names and “in the collection”.

Updating an animal

Choose Update in the animal’s + menu. The same cards will open, and each section’s Save updates the animal. The Info tab’s Edit buttons open one section on its own.

Weights and lengths are not edited here. Log a weigh-in instead, as described in Weights and lengths.

Cloning an animal

Clone reptile starts a new animal from a copy of this one. Everything is filled in except the name and nickname. The latest weight and length become the new animal’s starting ones. Photos and events are not copied.

Deleting an animal

Delete reptile asks for confirmation, then removes the animal along with all of its events and photos. Its offspring and clutches will keep its name as text.

Careful

Deleting an animal can’t be undone. For an animal you’ve sold or lost, change its Status instead. Its reminders will stop, and everything you’ve logged will remain.

Quick Actions

Quick Actions is the page a Cage Card’s QR code opens, designed for a phone. Scan the code with your phone’s camera (SnekLog has no scanner of its own).

Video without sound, 9 seconds. Ate logs the usual meal, and Undo takes it back.

What Quick Actions shows

  • The animal’s current needs, written out in full. Once its next shed is projected within a week, the page will also show Shed likely. Home does not show this
  • Quick Feed: Ate or Refused logs the usual meal. After logging, Undo will replace the two buttons until you leave the page
  • Log event: a button for each kind of event, each showing when one was last logged
  • Out just now sets Last out to the current time
  • Add a photo opens the Photos tab, and Open full page opens the animal’s Dashboard
