Matings

A mating records when two of your animals are paired or separated.

On either animal’s page, select Log event and choose Mating. The form is titled Log a pairing.

  1. Under What happened, specify which phase of the pairing you would like to record
  2. Under With, choose the other animal. The animal it was last paired with is selected by default
  3. Verify your date and time, then select Log pairing

A male pairs with a female, and either can pair with an animal of unknown sex. When logged from a male or a female, the other animal must be in the collection.

A mating appears in the History of both animals. Delete removes it from both. If one of the two animals is deleted, the mating remains in the other’s History.

Note

If saving a change shows Selected mate must be an active Male or Unknown-sex reptile., the other animal has left the collection. Open the mating from that animal’s own page instead.

Breeding Cycle

On the animal’s page, select Log event and choose Breeding Cycle. The form is titled Log a breeding event.

Note that if you log Laid Eggs here, it only creates an event for the selected animal; it does not create a clutch. Add the clutch using Clutches.

Clutches

Clutches is in the sidebar, under Reptiles.

Open Clutches in SnekLog (opens in a new tab)

This section will list every clutch in your collection, with Incubating clutches first, sorted by those due soonest; then, Past clutches, sorted by most recent.

Adding or editing a clutch

When you have a female that has laid eggs or is gravid and live-bearing, log them by going to Clutches and selecting the + button.

Video without sound, 21 seconds. Due fills in from your own hatched clutches, and Felix is checked from a logged mating with Toffee.
  1. On Clutches, select the + button. Add clutch is also in Home’s + menu
  2. Enter the Name / ID, choose Eggs or Live birth, and set Laid. For eggs, Due will fill in automatically
  3. Choose the Mother. Males logged mating with her will be checked under Father
  4. Fill in the remaining fields, then select Save

A clutch’s Name / ID cannot be the same as another clutch’s or any animal’s. To change a clutch, select Edit on its card.

The suggested due date

For eggs, SnekLog will suggest a Due date: Laid plus the number of incubation days expected. It sets the date using the median of the mother’s own clutches if available (there need to be at least two previous clutches to calculate a median). If not, it uses the median of her species’ clutches (by Common name), then her category’s Settings, Reptile Categories, Incubation if one is set, then all your clutches. With none, the suggestion is 58 days. The source will be listed under Due.

SnekLog fills in Due only while it is empty or still holds SnekLog’s own suggestion, so a date you enter will not be replaced. A live birth has no suggested date.

Sires from your logged matings

Select the mother from the list of females in your account. Once Laid is set, the males logged mating with her in the year up to the lay date will be checked as possible sires, up to 4. Uncheck any male that could not be the sire, or select Add another possible sire. SnekLog will not replace a sire you have selected. See Matings.

A clutch’s card

Point at an item, or at a number on the picture, to highlight it. Click to keep it lit.Tap an item, or a number on the picture, to highlight it.

  1. The clutch’s name, type (eggs or live birth) and status
  2. Edit and Delete
  3. Incubation progress from the lay date to the due date, or how late the clutch is. Once hatched, it will display the hatch date
  4. The number of good and bad eggs
  5. The Dam and Sire. Select a parent that is in your account to open its page
  6. Add hatchlings

The clutch’s hatchlings are listed under the parents, with a count by sex.

Hatchlings and the clutch’s name

A hatchling belongs to a clutch when its Clutch ID matches the clutch’s Name / ID (not case-sensitive). Every matching animal will appear on the clutch’s card, including sold animals. Add hatchlings fills in the Clutch ID. Renaming a clutch also renames its hatchlings’ Clutch ID, and changing one animal’s Clutch ID removes that animal from the card.

Hatched already?

Video without sound, 9 seconds. Undo in the message puts the clutch back.

An Incubating clutch that has hatchlings in your account will ask Hatched already? Select Mark Hatched, or Mark Born for a live birth, to move it to Past clutches. A clutch with no hatch date will be given the earliest hatchling’s birthday. Not yet hides the question until you next open SnekLog.

Deleting a clutch

Delete on the card removes only the clutch’s record. Its hatchlings remain and keep their Clutch ID.

Add hatchlings

Add hatchlings will add a clutch’s young to your collection, each with its own name, sex and hatch weight.

Picture to come: A loop on a phone, in the owner’s account: on Clutches, an Incubating clutch’s Add hatchlings opens the form; Hatched on is set and the numbers of Males, Females and Unknown are entered, and a named row appears for each; a hatch weight is entered on two rows; Housing is chosen in the sections under the roster; the Add button at the foot of the page is selected and the clutch moves under Past clutches.

  1. On the clutch’s card, select Add hatchlings
  2. Set Hatched on (or Born on), and the number of Males, Females and Unknown. A row will appear for each, already named
  3. Check the names, and enter a hatch weight or length for any you have weighed
  4. Change anything the hatchlings share in the sections under the roster, such as Housing
  5. Select the Add button at the foot of the page

The Hatchlings Form

Point at an item, or at a part of the picture, to highlight it. Click an item to keep it lit.Tap an item to highlight it on the picture.

  1. The good eggs, and any hatchlings added before
  2. Hatched on is each hatchling’s birthday, and the day it joined your collection
  3. The number of each sex. Together with any hatchlings added before, they cannot exceed the clutch’s good eggs; if more hatched than the count on record, edit the clutch first
  4. Name base is what each name begins with
  5. The weight and length units that will apply to the clutch
  6. One row per hatchling: its name, nickname, sex, weight and length

What they share

The sections under the roster will already be filled in. If the mother is in your account, the hatchlings take her category, food type, common and scientific names, care ranges and venomous setting. From the clutch, they take its parents, Captive bred, and the clutch’s name as their Clutch ID. Breeder and Breeder contact come from your letterhead. Feed every defaults to 7 days and a full substrate change to every 90 days, unless the reptile category has its own defaults.

Morph is left blank. A weight or length you enter is each hatchling’s first entry, dated the hatch day.

Mark the clutch Hatched

Mark the clutch Hatched is on by default, and will mark the clutch Hatched (or Born) once the hatchlings are added. Toggle it off for a clutch that is still hatching. You can add more hatchlings to it later, and its card will ask Hatched already? until it is marked.
