Create an account
Used the old SnekLog? You already have an account, with your animals and their history in it. Sign in with that instead: Signing in as a returning user.
Steps
- On the sign-in card, select Create an account
- Type a username of 3 to 20 characters in Username. In the future, you can sign in with your username or your email
- Type a password of at least 8 characters in Password
- Select Create account. By creating the account you agree to the Terms of Service and confirm you have read the Privacy Policy; both are linked under the button. SnekLog emails you a confirmation link immediately
- Open the email you receive from [email protected] and choose Confirm my email. The link works for 24 hours. If you don’t see it, see Troubleshooting email confirmation
SnekLog then opens Home. Add your first animal, or bring in a spreadsheet. A new account starts with some default lists and settings, which you can change in Settings.
Signing in as a returning user
If you’re new to SnekLog, choose Create an account under the form instead, and follow Create an account.
- Open app.sneklog.com in your phone or computer browser. The Welcome back card will ask you to sign in
- Type your username or email in Username or email, and your password in Password (remember, passwords are case-sensitive)
- Choose Sign in
- The first time, SnekLog asks you to confirm your email address before proceeding. If the address on the card is out of date, type the correct one in Email. Select Send confirmation link
- Open the email you receive from [email protected] and choose Confirm my email. The link works for 24 hours. Back in SnekLog, the screen will advance automatically. If you don’t see that, select I've confirmed it
- The first time, a dialog asks you to agree to the Terms of Service and confirm you have read the Privacy Policy; both are linked there. Select I agree to carry on, or Log out. You won’t be asked again unless the documents change

Why it works this way
The old SnekLog never checked email addresses, so the one on file could have a typo or belong to an inbox you no longer use. This confirmation will ensure a password reset email always reaches you.
Troubleshooting email confirmation
- Check the address on the Confirm your email card. If it’s wrong, select Use a different address
- Send it again sends a new email, up to 5 an hour. Use the link in the newest one
- The link works on any phone or computer. If it opens in a different browser from the one you signed in with, the confirmation will still go through. You can simply return to the first browser and select I've confirmed it
- A link stops working after 24 hours, or once a newer link has moved your account to another email address (see “That link has expired”)
- Signed in to the wrong account? Select Sign out beside Not you?
Keep me signed in This device only
When selected, a sign-in lasts 30 days instead of 24 hours. Each browser keeps its own sign-in.
Log out
Log out is at the foot of the sidebar. It only signs out the phone or computer you’re using. To sign out of every other device, change your password in Settings, Account.

Passwords and emails
Reset your password
- On the sign-in card, select Forgot password?
- Type your username or email in Username or email, and choose Send reset link
- Open the email Reset your SnekLog password from [email protected] and select Choose a new password. The link works once, for an hour
- Type your new password, and select Save and sign in
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Saving a new password signs you in, signs out your other phones and computers, and confirms your email address.
The card says Check your email whether or not an account matches, so it never tells anyone which accounts exist. If nothing comes, try your other username or email. A reset only goes to the address on your account; if you can’t reach that inbox, see I still can’t get in.
Forgotten your username
There’s no separate button for it. You can sign in with your email address instead, or find your username like this:
- On the sign-in card, select Forgot password?
- Type your email address, and choose Send reset link
- The email that comes says Your username is followed by your username. Sign in with it and the password you already have. You don’t have to choose a new password: if the link goes unused, your password stays the same
The emails SnekLog sends
| Sent when | |
|---|---|
| Confirm your SnekLog email | You create an account, confirm your email at your first sign-in, or change it in Settings, Account. It goes to the address being confirmed. |
| Reset your SnekLog password | You ask for a reset. |
| Your SnekLog password was changed | Your password changes, in Settings or through a reset link. |
| Your SnekLog email address was changed | Your confirmed address is replaced by a new one. This email goes to the old address. |
Account emails come from [email protected]. A long report’s email comes from [email protected] (Reports & Cage Cards). Neither address can receive mail: to reach the developer, use Send feedback. SnekLog sends no newsletter, and reminders show only in the app.
If an email surprises you
“Your SnekLog password was changed”, and it wasn’t you: reset your password at once with Reset my password in that email, which signs out every other device. Then write to the email address provided in the email to report the discrepancy.
“Your SnekLog email address was changed”, and it wasn’t you: write to the address in that email at once. Reset links will go to the new address, so you will need to contact an administrator to resolve the problem.
